SdKfz 250/9 "Alte" Halftrack with 2cm KwK 38

SdKfz 250/9 "Alte" Halftrack with 2cm KwK 38

The SdKfz 250/1 was introduced in 1941 to be used primarily for reconnaissance, forward observation, command and as radio vehicles. A total of 4,250 of the "Alte" or old were built between June 1941 and October 1943 when the "Neu" (new) version was put into production. Issued to Panzer grenadier divisions they saw action on all fronts.

The SdKfz 250/9 variant was introduced in March 1942. The first 30 vehicles were sent to Russia as reconnaissance vehicles to replace armoured cars. Their success in this role led to mass production commencing in May 1943. They were armed with a 20 mm (0.79 in) KwK 38 autocannon and a coaxial MG 34 or MG 42. These were mounted in a turret almost identical to that on the SdKfz 222 armoured car, although later vehicles were fitted with the Hängelafette 38 turret and FuG 12 radio.

This model features the earlier turret with anti-grenade mesh that may be positioned closed or open to reveal a detailed the KwK 38.
