QF 3" 20cwt Anti-Aircraft Gun & Carriage
Designed by Vickers and developed from their Naval design, they first entered service in 1914 and remained in use, modified and improved, until finally classified as obsolete in 1946! In 1930 the guns received the specially designed folding platform trailer and by 1939 it was in use as a static AA gun, naval mounts, including submarines, but more often, as in our model, mounted on the full four wheel carriage. Three hundred were taken to France with the BEF with the survivors being used by the Germans for costal defence. Twenty four were supplied by Vickers to Finland and these were used in the "Continuation War" of 1941-44 against the Soviet Union. Used on all fronts by the British, including North Africa and the Far East, they were reliable and liked by their crews due to the ease of handling by comparison to their 3.7" successor (See UK102).
