The US started development of a 4x4 Scout Car in the in mid thirties resulting in the M3 in 1937 of which 60 of this earlier body style were produced, and culminating in the White built M3A1 which would continue in production until 1944 with nearly 21000 built. First seeing action in 1942 during the Japananese invasion of the Philippines, they were later deployed by the US Army in North Africa and Sicily before being replaced by the M8 Greyhound in 1943. Supplied in large numbers under Lend Lease to Britain, they in turn supplied them to the Polish, Czech and Belgian units fighting with the Allies in Europe.
