Valentine Mk.IV (Diesel)(Soviet use)
A total of 2394 Valentines of various Marks were supplied to the Soviet Union from the UK with a further 1388 Canadian produced vehicles also delivered. In Soviet service, the Valentine was used from the Battle of Moscow until the end of the war. It was employed mostly on the southern fronts, mostly because of the proximity to the Persian supply route, but it was used in the northern fronts too. Although criticized for its speed and its weak gun, the Valentine was liked due to its small size, reliability and generally good armour protection.
Supplied in numbers from the UK via the Artic Convoys to Murmansk, at great cost and sacrifice by the Merchant Navy, Valentines were supplied along with Tetrarchs and Matildas and widely used by the Russians. Although often not as good as the indigenous Russian tanks, they did make a contribution to the Soviet arsenal.
