British Medium "A" Tank "Whippet"
Introduced in March 1918, the The Medium Mark A Whippet, as the name implies, was the fastest British tank of the Great War. It was intended to complement the slow heavy tanks by using it's mobility and speed to exploit and break into enemy lines. Arguably the most successful British tank of World War I, they were responsible for more German casualties than any other British tank of the war. Some sources argue that they also had the distinction of being involved in the first ever Tank vs Tank combat in history but this is contested. Captured vehicles also were used by the Germans and post war they were used in Ireland during the Irish War of Independence and North Russia during the War of Intervention. Some were also exported by Britain to their ally in the Far East; Japan.
