Sherman III (M4A2 Mid-Production)
This model represents the mid production type of the M4A2, redesignated as Sherman III by the British, as seen in Normandy. This vehicle has the three-bar-cleat tracks and narrow M34 mantlet. Early model Sherman IIIs may be identified by the direct vision slots and that the glacis plate is made up of several plates welded together but later models used a single plate.
Shermans of this configuration were used by 8th and 27th Armoured Brigades, both of which fought in Normandy from D-Day. 8th Armoured Brigade was employed on Gold Beach, supporting 50th Infantry Division and incorporated 4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards, 24th Lancers, and the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry. 27th Armoured Brigade landed on Sword Beach and incorporated 13/18th Hussars, Staffordshire Yeomanry, and East Riding Yeomanry.
The model shown has additional stowage and .50cal machine gun available from the Milicast Accessories Range. The model was built and painted by Dan Taylor with decals from DTM.
