This prolific weapon was produced from January 1938 until mid 1945 with a production rate of 228 per month. A very advanced weapon for its time, with an effective ceiling of 32,000 feet and a maximum horizontal range of 20,600 yards, the 1943 model could fire a 28lb. shell at a rate of 25 rounds of per minute. With a crew of 9 to 11 this was the direct equivalent of Germany's dreaded Flak 88 and with very similar performance, although it was seldom used in the anti-tank role. It is however known that they were used in this role but always in ad hoc situations. Towed by either a Scammel Pioneer or the Matador it was used on every front.
