During the Battle of the Bulge, the Germans disguised six Panthers to resemble M10 tank destroyers and designated as Ersatz M10. Commanded by Otto Skorzeny, Panzerbrigade.150 Rabenhugel had two companies of the heavily modifiedvehicles which included the removal of the Panther cupola and the stowage boxes on the rear hull. Sheet metal on the hull front, turret and turret overhang was fabricated to disguise the form of the Panther. This was completed with an olive drab paint scheme and Allied stars painted on the turret and glacis. Planned to be used in the attempt to seize vital bridges ahead of the advance of the 6th. Panzerarmee Operation Greif, these extensively modified and painted Panthers were intended to lead their columnsin the hope that American soldiers would not immediatly recognize them as Panthers in the winter weather until it was too late. In the event, they were not used as intended but instead in a conventional attack towards Malmedy on 22 December 1944 were all were lost in combat.
