The Centurion AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) FV4003 is a Centurion Mk 5 armed with a short barrelled L9A1 165mm demolition gun which entered service in 1963 but with modifications was still in combat in the Gulf War of 1991 during Operation Desert Storm.

The Centurion AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) FV4003 is a Centurion Mk 5 armed with a short barrelled L9A1 165mm demolition gun and entered service in 1963 replacing the Churchill AVRE. Later it was renamed "AVRE 165" due to its 165mm primary armament which is capable of firing a 60lb (29kg) High Explosive Squash Head (HESH) round. A front dozer blade is a standard fitting and the AVRE can tow the trailer for the Giant Viper for mine clearance or other trailers for "stores". Although the Centurion AVRE entered service in 1963, with modifications, it was still in combat in the Gulf War of 1991 during Operation Desert Storm.
