  • Churchill Armoured Recovery Vehicle Mk.I

Following the success of the Grant ARV, it was decided to utilize unit vehicles as ARVs.

From February 1942, Churchill Mk.I and Mk.IIs were converted into ARVs. The turret was replaced with a shallow cylindrical structure and an anti-aircraft mount with twin Bren .303 light machine guns.

During recovery operations, an A-frame jib was mounted on the front, supported by a length of high-tensile cable affixed to the hull behind the forward hatches. As there was no powered winch, a manually-operated block and tackle or chain hoist was fitted to the jib.

They saw service in Tunisia, Sicily & Italy before being replaced in mid-1944 by the custom built Mk.II version.

Please note: The chain seen on out prototype model is available separately from our Accessories Range (SKU: ACC106).

  • Churchill Crocodile Flamethrower Tank & Trailer

This model depicts the famous flame thrower tank using converted Churchill Mk.VII hulls with an armoured trailer, weighing 4.5tons and containing 400 gallons of Napalm. It was connected via an articulated connector pipe to the hull of a converted Churchill Mk.VII. The trailer was jettisoned after the fuel was exhausted, to be retrieved later by a light truck. The two bars seen on the sides of the trailer were removed and used for manhandling the empty trailer into position for towing. The Churchill then proceeded as a normal gun tank.

A total of 800 were built and used extensively in NW Europe where they were in constant demand and were often seconded to give assistance to the Americans. Four Sherman M4s were also converted to tow this trailer. They Churchill Crocodiles also saw combat in the Korean War.

Containing separate parts for the tank hull, including the flame gun, adaptor plate, articulated connector, travel lock, armoured fuel pipe, the trailer can be modelled separately or being towed. Both the WWII and the Korean versions can be built.
