M26/T26E3 Pershing (WWII version)
The T26E3 was the first production version of the Pershing and saw combat from February 1945 in Germany and in Okinawa. Following its introduction into combat it was renamed the M26 in March 1945. Later they saw extensive action in the Korean War.
The M26 was arrived in late 1944 and saw only a limited amount of combat. The delay in it's deployment has been generally agreed to have been down to the head of the Army Ground Forces; General Lesley McNair. However following the US 1st. Army reverses in the Battle of the Bulge, the American General Staff finally intervened in the T26 debate and ordered the first 20 Pershing's to the ETO without further delay. Arriving in February 1945 and supplied to the 3rd. and 9th Armoured Divisions, the Pershing soon proved to be more mobile than the Tiger and almost as good in a straight shooting match. They also saw action in the Pacific campaign being used at Okinawa and later in the Korean War.
