This was the most numerous of the British landing craft with a production total of 1.929 being built, with 60 a month being built in 1944. Formally designated as ALC No.2, they were first used at Narvik, landing French Legionaires! • LCMI Landing Craft Mechanical Mk.I (Waterline only)

Six hundred of these Landing Craft were built in the UK between 1940 and 1944 and resultantly they participated in the numerous amphibious landings that included Norway, Dieppe, Operation Torch, Sicily, Salerno and Anzio finally culminating in the Normandy landings. Their earliest use was however in the combined Allied attack on Norway and footage records an LCMI landing a French FT17 Light Tank during operations. Our model has been built as a waterline subject and comes with optional parts for either the earlier or the later armoured pattern. The kit comes with fully illustrated building instructions and a paint guide. See more 1/76 Landing Craft in the Accurate Armour section and in the Milicast Premiere Range American section. • LCP(L) Landing Craft Personnel, Large - Royal Navy Version

The LCP(L) was supplied to the British by the US and initially were given the name of R-Boats. They were used on Commando raids and the larger amphibious assaults such as the disastrous Dieppe raid on 19th August 1942. They also took part in the D-Day Landings in Normandy, although mainly as Survey Craft, Rescue Launches and as guides for the larger landing craft.

Our waterline model comes with optional parts for both the unarmoured early version, suitable for Dieppe, and for the later armoured type as used on D-Day. With one exception all photographs are of this model. The tilt hoops shown are not supplied with the kit.

Decals are available from the Dan Taylor Modelworks range.

  • Landing Craft Mechanical Mk. III - LCM(3) with Full Hull

In early 1942 the US Navy requested designs for a larger craft than the existing LCVP capable of landing a light tank. Higgins Industries responded with the LCM2, building the prototype in only 60 hours! 3,400 were built before being superseded by the LCM3 which could carry a 30ton tank, although in practice their usual task was to carry troops (up to 120) or cargo (up to 60,000 Lbs.) to the beach head. First seeing action in November 1943 at Tarawa, and in every subsequent "island hopping" operation across the Pacific, they also saw combat in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic theatres, as well as in the Korean war. They were also used by the British who usually dispensed with the two .50cal. MGs fitted to the US vessels. This model comes with a keel, rudders, propellors, etc but is also available as a waterline model as LCM3W. Unlike the plastic kit manufacturers, we have produced an accurately scaled model of this craft which we believe to be the most accurate to date, even reproducing the ever present "oil canning" effect so prevalent in all the photographs of this craft. Both British and American crew are available as sets FIG069 and Fig070 respectively. Decals are available from stock. See our Decal Section for illustrations. See more 1/76 Landing Craft in the Accurate Armour section and in the Milicast Premiere Range British section.

  • Landing Craft Mechanical Mk. III - LCM(3) - Waterline Version

They were also used by the British who usually dispensed with the two .50cal. MGs fitted to the US vessels. This is a highly accurate model capturing this important WWII icon and in particular has faithfully reproduced the "oil canning" on the hull sides. Decals are available from stock. See our Decal Section for illustrations. See more 1/76 Landing Craft in the Accurate Armour section and in the Milicast Premiere Range British section.

  • Landing Craft Mechanical Mk. VI (LCM(6)) - Waterline Version

The LCM6 was an improved version of the LCM3, at 6 feet longer, it measured was 56 feet long. This allowed it to carry a 34ton tank or 68,000lbs. of cargo or 120 fully equiped troops. The great majority of these craft were used in the Pacific campaign. Our model faithfully reproduces this vessel down to the weld seams for the additional 6 feet added section and the ever present "oil canning" effect so prevalent in all the photographs of these craft.
