Lanchesters were sent to Egypt as part of a force of 29 armoured cars sent as a response to the Italian invasion of Abyssinia and to strengthen the garrisons in Libya. By the end of the year however the squadrons was returned to Britain where the regiment was re-equipped with Morris armoured cars. By 1939, most Lanchesters were sent to the Far East and assigned to Malay and Singapore Volunteer Corps, plus the 2nd battalion of Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in Malaya. Some of these took part in the Malayan Campaign against Japan. Ten Lanchesters were given to the Territorial Army. In 1940 one was converted for use by Cabinet ministers and other VIPs. In 1941 two were given to the 1st Belgian Armoured Cars squadron. This variant is a Mk.I most easily identified by the twin rear wheels. The only surviving vehicle, a Mk II, is on display at the Bovington Tank Museum. See kit UK212.
