The T34 M1941/2 was built at the STZ plants in Stalingrad, with the hull and turrets built by the Stalingrad Shipyard and the 76.2mm F34 guns initialy built at the Barrikady factory. It is from the factory name that the popular name for this style derives due to the distinctive mantlet shape which came to a sharp point.

The T34 M1941/2 were built at the Stalingrad Tracktornyy Zavod (STZ plant), with the hull and turrets built by the Stalingrad Shipyard and the 76.2mm F34 guns initialy built at the Barrikady factory. It is from the factory name that the popular name for this style derives due to the distinctive mantlet shape which came to a sharp point.
It was in fact STZ in Stalingrad that kept production going during the winter of 1941/2 when most of the sub plants had been broken down for transport east or had been overrun by the Germans. By the Autumn of 1942 neary 3600 T34's had been built by them accounting for 40% of all T34's built to that time.
