This model represents the modified jeeps used by the Airborne units that landed by Glider and were used from D-Day onwards. The model comes complete with full weaponry, that includes a Vickers K gun, a Bren gun and a rifle, extra fuel cans and an optional frame for extra stowage. Alternatively the model can be built as a radio jeep.
The Standard Utility was another "Tilly" and like the Austin version (Kit Ref: BB001) saw service with all Branches of the Armed Services during WWII. Introduced in its military guise in 1939, they remained in service into the 1950s. Our model represents the later 1940 version and as it appeared in NW Europe in '44-'45. It is a one-piece casting requiring only two minutes of preparation prior to painting.
This little General Service trailer was towed by all types of soft skin vehicles from Jeeps to Light Trucks. A separate tarpaulin cover is supplied if used as a simple GS trailer. When the complete 4.2" mortar was stowed with ammunition it was often paired with the Loyd Carrier.
A limited number of these Armoured Command Vehicles were built and used in the Western Desert in late 1940 and used as HQ vehicles for the 7th. Armoured Division.
The kit includes an optional side awning.
Over 600,000 were built during WWII as either the Willys MB or Ford GPW. They were supplied in huge numbers to the British and used in every theatre from 1942 onwards.
The model can be built with an optional radio and .50cal machine gun to represent the U.S. Army reconnaissance variant. An optional wire cutter is also included, as used in NW Europe by both U.S. and Commonwealth forces.
