M3A3 Stuart turretless Recce Tank (Early)
This model depicts the turretless Stuart M3A3 recce tank, which following the experiences with extemporised versions in Tunisia (with M3's) and in Italy, were modified in the UK prior to D-Day. With their various combinations of machine guns, they were used by the British and Canadians for reconnaissance throughout the campaign in NW Europe. In this form it was also used as a gun tractor for the 17pdr. anti-tank gun. This model is of the early type originally seen in the Italian Campaign which in addition to the usual array of stowage, also includes a retractable canvas tilt which photographic evidence shows was sometimes fitted.
