Entering service in March 1942, the Churchill Mk. III was the first to have the 6pdr. Gun and the new welded turret. They first saw action in the Dieppe raid and later at Alamein, although only as HQ vehicles. Resultantly, they went on to see wider service throughout the North African and Italian campaigns. In 1944, with upgrades including applique armour, and redesignated as Mk. III* or Mk. IXLT (Light Turret) (Milicast kit BB085) they saw service in NW Europe. Along with Mk. IVs, they were also supplied to the USSR and saw extensive action there too. The Churchill Mk. IV was fitted the 6pdr.Gun and had a completely new cast turret but in all other respects was identical to the Mk. III. Similarly, the Mk. V only differed from the Mk. IV in that it was armed with the 95mm howitzer. This accounted for 10% of the Churchill production. They saw action in the N. African campaign, Sicily, Italy and some later in NW Europe. This kit comes with the 6pdr gun (Mk. III and Mk. IV), 95mm Howitzer (Mk. V) and the 75mm (Early Mk.VI) and both turret types to allow you to build any of the three marks. The front "horns" are supplied as separate parts as they were often discarded.
