The Mk.IIA* was the main production type and is the type most commonly associated with the Western Desert campaign where is saw front line action up to the First Battle of Alamein in July 1942. Thereafter it was used in secondary roles and for special purposes including the mine clearing role as the first Scorpion. Sent to the Far East, they gained new respect with the Australians who used them in places such as New Guinea, Bougainville and Borneo.
