M6 38ton High Speed Tractor

A total of 1235 38ton rated M6 High-Speed Tractor were built by Allis-Chalmers between February 1944 and August 1945 to tow the 8" Gun and the M1 240mm Howitzer. Their operational use was restricted to the ETO where they saw service with both the US Army and the British Super Heavy Regiments of the Royal Artillery. The 240mm M1 Howitzer had to be broken down into two loads when towed. The Barrel was towed on the M2A1 Trailer (US141) and the Trail Legs and Carriage on the M3A1 Trailer (US142).
