A13 Mk. IV (Upgrade)

As both the A9 (UK13) and the A10 (tba) were considered too slow for the Cruiser role and as great hopes had been placed in the newly aquired Christie suspension, it was decided to develop a new, faster AFV which in Otober 1937 resulted in the A13 Cruiser Mk.III. The A13 Mk.IV was essentially an uparmoured A13 Mk.III but differed by having extra armour protection on the hull nose, glacis and turret front and the "spaced armour" faceted sides on the turret. Despite this extra weight (1,200Lbs.) this AFV could still attain speeds of nearly 40mph. A total of 655 A13's were built with production ending in 1941. They saw action with the BEF with the 1st. Armoured Division and in the Western Desert with 7th.Armd. Division.
