Details:
This SPG was, with the exception of the T34, the most
numerous Soviet AFV produced in WWII.
Combining
the ZIS 3 76.2mm field gun (Kit R15) on a lengthened
T70 hull, mass production began in 1943, with a couple
of design types, and although intended to also be a
Tank Destroyer, it was most widely deployed in the Assault
Gun role.
Never popular
with its crews, due in part to its open structure, it
was called the "Bitch".
Some were
still in service with a number of Soviet Bloc countries
in the 1980's.
