Similar tn
appearance to the commercially built Vickers -Carden-
Loyd tank of the period, this two man, 3ton tankette,
armed with one 7.7mm Machine Gun, entered service in
1934 and was used to great effect in China but also
saw service in all the early campaigns in the Pacific
including the battles for the Philippines, Singapore,
Java, etc.
Although designed
as a an armed tractor, they were greatly appreciated
by the Infantry Divisions that received them and not
having any other tank support, they ignored their intended
role as logistical vehicles and used them as recce and
support tanks to good effect.
Their success led to the development of the slightly
larger but better armed Type 97.
