The Type 97 entered
service in 1938 and remained in production until late
1943 with a combined total of 2,000 being built
In 1942 it
was decided to improve both the hull and turret design
the result was the "Shinhoto".
Armed with a
47mm canon and two 7.7mm MG's they saw action on all
fronts.
