Details:
Around 4000 Opel Maultiers were built with nearly 300
being converted during 1943 to Armoured Munitions Carriers
and Prime Movers for the Nebelwerfers and 7.5cm PaK40.
The Nebelwerfer
rocket system (see G73 & G138) was a very effective
weapon but when fired left a huge vapour trail that
created clouds of dirt and debris which often led to
artillery retalliation onto that location.
Resultantly
the Wehrmacht mounted a ten barrel launcher on the back
of the armoured weapons carrier to give a quicker exit
from their firing positions. Around 300 were built,
mostly seeing service on the Eastern Front.
