| Vickers-Carden-Lloyd Light Tank MkIIIB |
|
|
 |
Details: The Light Tank MkIIIB,
better known as the "The Dutchman", was built
by Vickers-Carden-Lloyd (VCL) as a contract for the Dutch
Government to supply 44 vehicles for the defence of the
Dutch East Indies. Twenty were delivered before the German
occupation and saw combat against the Japanese on Borneo
and Java, subsequently being used by the Japanese and
later still by the Indonesian Nationalists in the fighting
that occurred following the occupation of the archipelago
by British forces following the Japanese surrender.
Of the remaining production, four arrived in Rotterdam
just prior to the German invasion, there subsequent fate
is unknown. The remaining contract was taken over by the
British and used for airfield defence and training. |
