These famous
armoured cars of the RAF Armoured Car Regiment served
in North Africa from 1940 until the final Axis capitulation
in Tunisia in 1943.
Twenty "tired"1920
Pattern Rolls Royce Armoured Cars were converted in
the Thomas Cook garage in Cairo in 1940 by placing their
redundant armoured bodies on the six wheeled chassis
and drive train of Fordson Trucks.
Although armament
varied and indeed changed over time, photographic evidence
of vehicles at Cap Bon in 1943 shows that one at least
still had a Boys Anti-Tank gun!
