Based on the
combination of a Czech 47mm anti-tank gun and the modified
hull of the Panzer I Ausf B, 202 of these SPG's entered
service in 1940. They subsequently saw action on all
fronts, including North Africa, remaining in service
in Russia until late 1943.
Two types
were seen and this model represents the more numerous
earlier type with a total of 132 built, first seeing
action in the Low Countries.
The remainder
had the later extended upper superstructure and both
types were deployed in the invasions of the Balkans
and Russia.
In North
Africa, photographic evidence suggests that only the
later type was deployed there.
