A total of 11,000
of the 37mm armed M8 and M20 Utility were produced from
mid 1943 and first saw combat in Italy replacing the
M3 Scout Car.
With an operating
range of up to 400 miles and a max speed of 60mph, with
cross country performance around 40-55 mph, these AFV's
proved very useful following the Normandy breakout and
became the primary recon. vehicle of US Armoured Divisions
seeing extensive action throughout the ETO.
In the Pacific
campaign their use was limited, but in the Philippines
and later in Okinawa, they saw wider use.
Although supplied
to Britain, and given the name "Greyhound", they saw
limited use but in Free French service the large numbers
supplied of both vehicles were widely used.
Both vehicles
also saw combat in the Korean war.
Our
14 part model comes with an .50cal MG and mount and
produces a fine example of this superb armoured car.
Both
the M8 and M20 are available without either front or
rear mudguards as kits BA06 and BA09 respectively.
