A total of
11,000 of the 37mm armed M8 and M20 Utility were produced
from mid 1943 and first saw combat in Italy replacing
the M3 Scout Car.
With an operating
range of up to 400 miles and a max speed of 60mph, with
cross country performance around 40-55 mph, these AFV's
proved very useful following the Normandy breakout and
became the primary recon. vehicle of US Armoured Divisions
seeing extensive action throughout the ETO.
In the Pacific
campaign their use was limited, but in the Philippines
and later in Okinawa, they saw wider use.
Although supplied
to Britain, and given the name "Greyhound",
they saw limited use but in Free French service the
large numbers supplied of both vehicles were widely
used.
Both vehicles
also saw combat in the Korean war.
Our
14 part model comes the .50cal MG and mount and produces
a fine example of this superb armoured car.
Both
the M8 and M20 are available with front and rear mudguards
as kits BA07 and BA09 respectively.
