The M4A2 was
the second production type of Sherman built and the
only combat diesel engined type used. A total of 8053
were built from April 1942 until December 1943 and went
through all the production changes in that time.
This model
represents a mid- prod. type and in this configuration
was used by USMC in the Pacific campaign, however the
US Army did not use them.
Some were
supplied under Lend-Lease to the Russians and also the
Free French but the vast majority went to the British
and as the Sherman III saw extensive action on every
front including the Normandy campaign.
